HYUNDAI WIA launches ‘Green the Planet’ to protect forests

2025-11-03

HYUNDAI WIA launched an environmental protection campaign bringing together employees and their families.

On November 3rd, HYUNDAI WIA announced that it held the ‘Green the Planet’ campaign at the Forest Ventures Plant R&D center on the 1st in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do. ‘Green the Planet’ is an awareness campaign designed to inspire action and protect the environment from the impacts of climate change. The event welcomed around one hundred HYUNDAI WIA employees and family members.

HYUNDAI WIA structured the program to help participants raise awareness on climate change and engage in hands-on activities to protect forests. To engage younger participants, HYUNDAI WIA prepared a world featuring its mascot ‘Dodam’. Dodam is inspired by the endangered animal, the Korean marten, whose habitats are threatened by the climate crisis. HYUNDAI WIA designed activities for employees and their families to rebuild forest homes for ‘Dodam’ and animal friends.

HYUNDAI WIA employees and their families completed three missions: ecosystem awareness, repotting seedlings and crafting seed balls, and cultivating ecosystem forests.  ‘Bee-friendly’ trees in particular serve as vital resources for bees to collect nectar, facilitating pollination and ultimately preserving ecosystem diversity. Participants repotted approximately 300 seedlings of linden trees, a key nectar tree, preparing them for successful transplantation into different environments. These seedlings will be donated to domestic nectar tree forests in need.

Participants were also invited into the forest to directly engage in ecosystem conservation activities. Around 600 ‘seed balls’ - seeds mixed with herbaceous plants and soil, and shaped into an orb  - were scattered in the forest. Seed balls offer an easy way to sow seeds and are more effective for greening areas with limited water supply than direct seeding. Additionally, participants repaired a spring water source used by forest animals and built a sheltered resting area for roe deer by weaving branches.

HYUNDAI WIA plans to expand volunteer activities, inviting employees to take more active steps toward environmental protection. “It was a deeply meaningful time for employees and their families to come together, share their care for the environment, and take part in practical actions. We plan to initiate further environmental protection activities and contribute to the local community”, said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
