On September 2nd, HYUNDAI WIA announced its participation in ‘MSPO 2025’ held in Kielce, Poland. Taking place from September 2 to 5 (local time), MSPO hosts around 700 companies from 36 countries, including major European nations. This is the first time HYUNDAI WIA has set up an independent booth at a defense exhibition hosted in Europe.

HYUNDAI WIA designed the booth with a focus on mobility-based artillery systems. A mobility-based artillery system is a light artillery system mounted on a tactical vehicle. A prime example is the “Lightweight 105mm Self-propelled Howitzer” unveiled in real scale at the exhibition. Developed through the Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Research Institute Rapid R&D project, this howitzer offers enhanced range and mobility compared to its predecessor. The maximum range reaches 18km.
By reducing the weight to less than half of the original weight, the howitzer can be mounted on a lightweight tactical vehicle capable of speeds  up to 100 km/h and can be airlifted by helicopters, greatly expanding its operational range.

HYUNDAI WIA also displayed a mock-up of the “Vehicle-mounted 81mm Mortar”. The mortar is an upgraded version of the 81mm mortar, the most widely utilized mortar in ground combat environments worldwide. To enable faster battlefield deployment, HYUNDAI WIA mounted the traditionally hand carried mortar on a light tactical vehicle. The number of operators is reduced from 5 to 3, and the laying time has been significantly shortened from five minutes to just ten seconds. In situations where vehicles cannot be used, the mortar can still be operated in the same manner as its predecessor, the 81mm mortar.

HYUNDAI WIA also showcased the “Remote Control Weapon System (RCWS)”, which can be mounted on various types of vehicles. The RCWS is a weapon system that enables operators to monitor battlefields from inside of the vehicle and fire remotely. HYUNDAI WIA designed this weapon system to accommodate 7.62mm and 12.7mm machine guns, recently enhanced the firing accuracy drastically by equipping the system with an AI-based automatic tracking algorithm.

HYUNDAI WIA, leveraging extensive experience and advanced technology accumulated from supplying large-caliber artillery guns for the K2 main battle tank and K9 self-propelled howitzer, aims to promote its mobility-based artillery systems worldwide. In particular, the company plans to expand sales in European markets, including Poland which recently inked a substantial defense contract with Korea. “The MSPO 2025 holds special significance as it marks our first independent participation in a European defense exhibition. Building on the growing prominence of K-defense in Europe, we will be actively promoting HYUNDAI WIA’s advanced defense technologies,” said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
