HYUNDAI WIA showcases its mobility-based artillery system at Europe’s largest defense industry exhibition.

On June 16th, HYUNDAI WIA announced its participation in Eurosatory 2026, held from 15th to 19th (local time) at Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre in Paris, France. Eurosatory is one of the largest defense industry exhibitions in Europe. This year’s event brought together 2,100 companies from 70 countries, marking HYUNDAI WIA’s first appearance at the show.

At this exhibition, HYUNDAI WIA presented its lineup of vehicle-mounted artillery systems. One of the main exhibits is the Lightweight 105mm Self-Propelled Howitzer, which features a conventional 105mm howitzer mounted on a light tactical vehicle. More than 50 percent lighter than wheeled self-propelled howitzers currently fielded by the South Korean military, the system offers enhanced mobility while maintaining a maximum range of 18 kilometers. The system is designed to operate together with a fire command vehicle and an ammunition carrier vehicle, supporting rapid fire control and ammunition resupply in the field. In addition, it can be airlifted by a helicopter, allowing deployment even in areas that are difficult to reach by road. HYUNDAI WIA developed the system through a Rapid Demonstration Project of the Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Research Institute, aiming to accelerate deployment of advanced weapon systems.


HYUNDAI WIA also introduced its Remote Control Weapon System (RCWS), a next-generation weapon system. The weapon system allows operators to engage targets remotely while monitoring battlefield conditions on an internal display. At the exhibition, HYUNDAI WIA showcased a small RCWS equipped with a 7.62mm machine gun, one of the most widely used calibers in the world. The company has equipped its entire RCWS lineup with AI-based automatic tracking algorithms, enabling more precise target detection and rapid target identification.

HYUNDAI WIA also displayed mock ups of the 120mm gun barrel used in the K2 main battle tank and the 155mm gun barrel mounted on the K9 self-propelled howitzer. As Korea’s only artillery systems manufacturer, HYUNDAI WIA plans to meet growing demand in the European artillery market by leveraging its extensive experience in producing large-caliber artillery systems and its advanced precision machining capabilities.


In addition, HYUNDAI WIA unveiled its mobility component, the 2-Speed Active Transfer Case (ATC), at the exhibition. The component is designed to distribute torque more effectively in off-road conditions, helping optimize vehicle performance. In extreme off-road conditions, it can deliver more than 2.7 times the torque available under normal driving conditions, improving traction and vehicle stability. The 2-Speed ATC is currently applied to KIA’s pickup truck Tasman, which is being used as a military command vehicle as well.

HYUNDAI WIA aims to use this exhibition as a foothold to expand artillery exports across Europe. Notably, the company plans to strengthen its sales activities by capitalizing on growing demand for next-generation weapon replacement in European countries such as Poland and Romania. “It is particularly meaningful for us to make our first appearance at Eurosatory, Europe’s largest defense exhibition. Through this event, we aim to showcase the defense capabilities we have developed through the production of large-caliber artillery systems, including those for the K2 main battle tank and the K9 self-propelled howitzer, and to expand our business opportunities in global markets,” said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
