HYUDAI WIA was selected as the ‘ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) company of the year in South Korea’.

On December 14th, HYUNDAI WIA announced to win the ‘Minister of Environment Award’ in the consumer discretionary manufacturing division at the ‘2023 Korea Award Ceremony of ESG Company of the Year’ held at the Environment Foundation in Jung-gu, Seoul. Korea Green Foundation, together with the ESG evaluation agency, Who’s Good Korea, evaluated the ESG management performance of 800 listed companies in Korea to select the winners. Three companies, HYUNDAI WIA (consumer discretionary of manufacturing), Samsung SDS (information and communication technology), and SKC (materials), were awarded as a result.

HYUNDAI WIA was highly recognized for its efforts in ESG practices. The company established a carbon-neutral strategy to respond to climate change and is dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality by 2045 by installing solar panels at major business sites and expanding the purchase of renewable energy. HYUNDAI WIA joined the 'RE100 Initiative' in line with these efforts last year.

HYUNDAI WIA is also minimizing its energy use. By monitoring the greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage at the work sites, the company was able to improve its energy efficiency, reducing 11% of greenhouse gas emissions and 10% of energy use compared to last year’s target. In addition, the environmental impact generated during the manufacturing process of the representative product, constant velocity joints, is being transparently disclosed to the stakeholders.  

Efforts to create a safe workplace also contributed to the favorable evaluation. This year, HYUNDAI WIA is focusing on safety management with the declaration of the 'Health and Safety Prior Management Policy' and the amendment of ‘10 essential safety rules', which minimized major accidents. The company also organized a separate safety management committee and published safety newspapers to proactively prevent safety accidents and diseases. In recognition of these efforts, HYUNDAI WIA was certified as a health-friendly company by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 12th.

As a part of ESG management, practices for the mutual benefit with the local communities are another passionate commitment of HYUNDAI WIA. Through its iconic social activity program, ‘HYUNDAI WIA Dream Car’, the company has donated 150 cars to welfare facilities near its production sites. In addition, other programs are promoted, such as ‘HYUNDAI WIA Green School’, which creates school forests to help students grow healthier, and ‘Mobility School for Junior High School Students’, which helps students to become familiar with future industries.
