Employees of HYUNDAI WIA donated automobiles to welfare organizations in South Korea by collecting part of their salaries.

On December 21st, HYUNDAI WIA announced that the company held a ‘HYUNDAI WIA Dream Car' delivery event at its headquarters in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, and passed the car keys to the officials from the local welfare organizations such as the ‘Changwon Community Transition Center for the Disabled’. At the ceremony, a total of 20 cars, including nine vans, seven sedans, two wheelchair vans, and two refrigerated vans were given to social welfare organizations located in Changwon City, Uiwang, Pyeongtaek, and Ansan Cities in Gyeonggi-do, Seosan-si in Chungcheongnam-do, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and Ulsan Metropolitan City. This dream car project has been delivering 170 cars since 2013 to various organizations in need across the country.

HYUNDAI WIA purchased the donated cars with about 500 million won ($460,000) raised through its in-house social contribution program, ’The Miracle of 1%’, along with support funds from the Hyundai Motor Group. ‘The Miracle of 1%’ is one of the company's most representative corporate social responsibility programs, where employees donate 1% of their monthly salary to help their neighbors. The collected funds are used to help local neighbors in need, including the ‘Dream Cars’.

The selected social welfare organizations are mostly ones that do not have vehicles or possess vehicles that are too old to operate properly. In the case of the ‘Changwon Community Transition Center for the Disabled’, the center used to have difficulties and inconveniences when it comes to home visits to people with disabilities as they did not have cars. Similarly, ‘The Pyeongtaek Day Care Center for the Visually Impaired’ in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, which did not have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle despite its high usage rate by people with severe disabilities, was given customized cars. In addition, two welfare organizations that provide meals to low-income families received refrigerator trucks to ensure delivery of hygiene and fresh food even in midsummer.

HYUNDAI WIA plans to expand its social contribution activities and devote itself to creating a culture where it can grow together with its local communities. "It is even more meaningful that we are voluntarily donating cars with all our colleagues. We will continue to participate in various welfare activities other than HYUNDAI WIA Dream Car so that our company can convey warmth to our neighbors", said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
