HYUNDAI WIA embarks on the development of robot-friendly parking lots in collaboration with Hyundai E&C.

On November 10th, HYUNDAI WIA announced that the company had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for ‘Robot Parking Solutions’ with Hyundai E&C at HYUNDAI WIA Uiwang R&D center on the 7th. Two companies aim to develop a new parking solution by combining HYUNDAI WIA’s parking robot technology with Hyundai E&C’s expertise in project discovery and design. Ik-Jin Baek, a vice president of mobility solution sub-division at HYUNDAI WIA and Jae-Yeong Kim, a head of technology research institute at Hyundai E&C attended the signing ceremony.

Through this collaboration with Hyundai E&C, HYUNDAI WIA plans to develop customized parking lots optimized for parking robots. The initiative aims to maximize parking space utilization and enhance operational efficiency, incorporating parking robot systems from the early stages of construction and design.
Hyundai E&C, in turn, plans to discover a new business site to introduce parking robots, and to establish customized design plans optimized for their application. The company also plans to develop an operational scenario, including movement paths of parking robots, taking user convenience into consideration.

HYUNDAI WIA plans to provide solutions as well, including control software for parking robots. The company will also be responsible for designing the infrastructure for the installation and operation of the parking robots. In collaboration with Hyundai E&C, HYUNDAI WIA will jointly develop parking robot service scenario at the parking lot, user experience (UX), user interface (UI) systems. In addition, technical support training for parking robot operation will be provided.

Ahead of signing the MOU, HYUNDAI WIA had a demonstration of its parking robots at Uiwang R&D center in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do. HYUNDIA WIA presented the efficiency of the parking robot and its technical competence through the demonstration of a new parking robot. In fact, HYUNDAI WIA is focusing on the development of performance to expand the parking robot business. Recently, the company increased the maximum payload from 2.2t to 3.4t to meet the growing demand of with 2tons such as EVs and SUVs.
Furthermore, the company developed a ‘Smart Control System’ which enables control of more than 50 units of parking robots simultaneously.

Through this cooperation, HYUNDAI WIA and Hyundai E&C are planning to introduce parking robots, starting with a new business site that will be completed in 2027. “We are pleased to collaborate with Hyundai E&C to develop robot parking solutions optimized for parking robot operation.
