HYUNDAI WIA Mexico announced on November 26th that it was awarded the ‘Q1 Award’ certification from global automaker Ford. Ford’s Q1 Award, which stands for “Quality is No.1,” recognizes suppliers who receive the highest scores in Ford’s comprehensive evaluation encompassing production technology and efforts to improve quality. This is the first time HYUNDAI WIA Mexico has received the Q1 Award certification.
HYUNDAI WIA Mexico received this certification by demonstrating quality excellence over five years of supplying constant velocity joints (CVJs), a key drivetrain component that transmits power generated by the engine or motor to the wheels. Since 2019, HYUNDAI WIA has started to supply CVJs to the Ford Lincoln SUV ‘Corsair’. The CVJs have also been supplied to Ford’s pickup truck ‘Maverick’ since 2021.
The extensive experience HYUNDAI WIA has accumulated through years of mass-producing CVJs laid the foundation for this certification. Since its first mass production in 1988, HYUNDAI WIA has been mass-producing world-class CVJs for over 30 years. In 2017, HYUNDAI WIA became the first Korean automotive parts manufacturer to surpass a cumulative production of 100 million CVJs.
A HYUNDAI WIA representative said, “As SUVs and pickup trucks are the most popular vehicle types in North America, we have focused on developing and producing CVJs with enhanced durability and quality. Our long-standing expertise in CVJ development and mass production has now been recognized by a global automaker.”
With this certification, HYUNDAI WIA expects to be significantly involved in the development process of Ford’s new vehicles. Being recognized for quality by the global automaker will also enable HYUNDAI WIA to further expand business in the North American market. The company also plans to continue expanding its market to North American automakers by minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) of CVJs and reducing the weight through continuous research and development.
The HYUNDAI WIA representative added, “This Q1 certification is a testament to the recognition of technology and quality of HYUNDAI WIA’s product. Through continuous research and development, we will make every effort to become a leading mobility component company in the global mobility market.”
