HYUNDAI WIA kicks off its robot business with its collaborative robot and autonomous mobile robot.
May 23rd – HYUNDAI WIA officially unveiled its smart manufacturing logistics robots for the first time at SIMTOS 2022, a production and manufacturing technology exhibition held at KINTEX in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. HYUNDAI WIA also displayed 22 machine tools such as machining center and lathe. SIMTOS 2022, the largest manufacturing technology exhibition in Korea with1,200 companies from 30 nations participating, will be held from this day to the 27th.
HYUNDAI WIA unveiled collaborative robot, autonomous mobile robot (AMR), and mobile picking robot (MPR) at the exhibition. First, HYUNDAI WIA introduced two types of collaborative robots with a payload of each 15kg and 10kg. A collaborative robot has multiple joints and can collaborate with workers without a safety fence. It is usually set inside the machine tool or used to make mold products. HYUNDAI WIA has minimized the main body weight and expanded working area to 130mm. A collision detection sensor, which ensures workers' safety at all conditions, was also developed.
HYUNDAI WIA also introduced two types of logistics robots based on autonomous driving technology with a payload of 1,000kg and 300kg. These robots can move around the workplace without guide. The entire process is carried out through an integrated control system specifically built for these logistics robots. While avoiding collision with lidar sensors, managers can map out the real-time workplace with 3D cameras. Furthermore, the optimal route is set automatically according to the surrounding environment.
HYUNDAI WIA also exhibited a 'mobile picking robot (MPR)' that moves on its own, transfers, and assembles parts. It combines two cooperative robots with a payload of 15kg and a logistics robot to automatically conduct the entire assembly work. With vision-based recognition, it can pick and place calibration of misaligned parts and perform various tasks with different tools applied.
HYUNDAI WIA also presented an 'integrated smart mobile robot control system' that allows collaborative robot and autonomous mobile robot to work together on the production site. It is a system that enables logistics robots to move as planned. HYUNDAI WIA has implemented a system so multiple robots can operate simultaneously without collisions and complete work in order. In addition, workers can check the real-time robot work process in 2D animation.
HYUNDAI WIA also revealed a massive lineup of machine tools for EV parts, semiconductor, and aviation industry. Specifically, machine tools such as KF5200D for EV motor covers, KF5600II for semiconductor wafer fixture processing, and XF2000 for complex impeller processing. HYUNDAI WIA also conducted robot demonstrations to increase touch points with the visitors.
HYUNDAI WIA aims to supply 'smart manufacturing solutions' with machine tools and robots such as AMR, MPR, Co-bot. "We are proud to enter smart manufacturing and logistics robot market based on our long-established manufacturing know-how. We will not stop innovating the manufacturing sites with collaborative robot and autonomous mobile robot,” said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
