HYUDAI WIA has received the highest rating from the world’s environmental disclosure platform.

On February 9th, HYUNDAI WIA announced not only to win the ‘Leadership A’ from the ‘2022 CDP Climate Change’, but also to become a member of the ‘Carbon Management Honors Club’ along with the other top 5 domestic companies. HYUNDAI WIA is exclusive in which to accomplish both ‘Leadership A’ and ‘Carbon Management Honors Club’ as the domestic auto parts companies.

CDP is the world’s environmental disclosure project that releases annual reports based on the procurement decisions of major corporations towards the climate change issue. Along with various credible indicators for investment including Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) and Global 100, the CDP is known as one of the most reliable sustainability indices. This year’s CDP has analyzed various initiatives by disclosing companies’ greenhouse gas emissions and its reduction target. The ratings are composed of 8 consecutive grades such as ‘Leadership A-‘, ‘Management B’, and ‘Management B-‘.

HYUNDAI WIA received positive evaluation for its proactive climate responses in diverse sectors to reduce carbon emissions. Joining the Climate Group’s RE100, a global initiative that both the Climate Group and CDP encourage companies to use 100% renewable power, played a major role. The company aims to make a transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2045.

Another factor for the positive evaluation was the company's effort to transform into an eco-friendly auto parts manufacturer. HYUNDAI WIA is currently preparing to enter new markets with the thermal management system for eco-friendly vehicles. The electrified supercharger already received Green Certification and the development of an electrified axle, which will substitute existing drive axle for the internal combustion engine, is in progress as well.  

HYUNDAI WIA is proactively practicing a variety of climate activities to reduce greenhouse gas emission. These include enhancement of coolant pump with low-efficiency, installment of water saving machine with high-efficiency and reduction of electricity cost through enhanced air-circulation in driving rooms. HYUNDAI WIA is also transparently disclosing the climate indication of its major product, C. V. Joint. In this regard, HWIA received approval of ‘Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)’ by the Korea Environmental Industry& Technology Institute (KEITI), which measures environmental effects caused by the entire production process- from collection, production, logistic, usage to disposal. These actions have led to 20% reduction of emissions compared to the quota in 2021.

Contribution to the local society was recognized as well in the evaluation. Ever since 2019, HYUNDAI WIA has been selecting schools as a ‘HYUNDAI WIA Green School’ nearby the business plant to create a forest at the school site. As a part of ‘1-Company 1-Stream Campaign’, the firm purified Gaeumjeong stream in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do and pledged ‘Bio-Diversity Preservation Convention’ with the Changwon city.
