HYUNDAI WIA presents ‘Total Manufacturing Solution for Mobility’ at SIMTOS 2024

HYUNDAI WIA revealed a new manufacturing solution in line with the future mobility paradigm.  

On April 1st, HYUNDAI WIA announced the showcase of ‘Total Manufacturing Solution for Mobility’ at ‘SIMTOS 2024’ specialized for EV production, the largest manufacturing technology exhibition held in KINTEX, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is a solution where autonomous logistics robots (AMR‧Autonomous Mobile Robot), collaborative robots, and machine tools work harmoniously to manufacture EV parts without any human intervention. HYUNDAI WIA also exhibited 18 high-performance machine tools specialized in manufacturing futuristic mobility. SIMTOS 2024, Korea's largest manufacturing technology exhibition, is organized on the most extensive scale ever, with 1,300 companies across 35 different nations participating until April 5th.

HYUNDAI WIA emphasized presenting a manufacturing solution specialized in futuristic mobility production. Using machine tools and different robots, the processed parts were successfully transferred and processed without the worker's assistance. HYUNDAI WIA demonstrated with one metal processing machine tool SE2200M, two 300kg payload AMRs, and two 15kg payload collaborative robots to show how parts are automatically transferred and completed. When AMR conveys metallic material to the machine tool, the collaborative robot inputs the part into the machine tool. After processing, the collaborative robot pulls out the part, and AMR automatically conveys it to the designated destination.



HYUNDAI WIA also revealed 18 high-performance machine tools aligned with changes in the market. Among these, ten machine tools are new products. HYUNDAI WIA showcased XM2600ST, 9-axis multi-taking machine tool that combines a lathe and a machining center functions, and cost-effective vertical machining center KF5. Horizontal machining center, KH63000 was also released with accelerated machining speed and improved cutting performance. HYUNDAI WIA conducted a manufacturing demonstration to produce eight EV parts, including a motor, converter part, battery case, and light vehicle wheels.

HYUNDAI WIA AMR is also customized to be used in mobility manufacturing sites. It is developed to avoid obstacles independently and reach the destination on the optimal path. Considering that EV parts are heavier than conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, HYUNDAI WIA also showcased AMR, which could lift and transport up to 1 ton. HYUNDAI WIA AMRs were supplied to the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS) last year and are planned to be supplied to Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) and Hyundai Mobis’ EV battery plant in North America.



As a futuristic mobility parts manufacturer, HYUNDAI WIA also displayed thermal management parts for EVs. The core parts that control the main EV parts, such as the motor and battery. Two coolant hub modules and Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) modules were also open to the public. HYUNDAI WIA coolant hub module significantly enhanced efficiency by functionally integrating the driveline part with a separate device that cools the battery.

HYUNDAI WIA plans to conduct intense research and development to expand the supply of ‘manufacturing solutions for the futuristic mobility industry’. “We are glad to share our manufacturing solution for mobility to domestic and international customers in SIMTOS 2024. We will continue to devote efforts to innovate manufacturing sites with ‘intellectualization, digitalization, automation’, the biggest buzzwords in the manufacturing industry,” said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
