HYUNDAI WIA opened the Safety Experience Lab, where people can participate in safety training.
On 19th May, HYUNDAI WIA announced the opening of the ‘S+’, the Safety Experience Lab at Changwon-si, Gyeongsang-do. The ‘S+’ is a facility where anyone can receive the highest level of safety education. The opening ceremony was attended by the governor of Gyeongnam-do, Wansoo Park, a Member of the National Assembly, Seongmoo Heo (Seongsan-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam-do), the mayor of Changwon-si, Nampyo Hong, and the CEO of HYUNDAI WIA, Jeawook Jung.
S+ is an open educational facility providing safety training through experience-based programs. HYUNDAI WIA created S+ in a 756-square-meter space that was previously used as a cafeteria within the company. The company established S+ with the meaning of ‘If you add safety (SAFETY) to your life (+), you will find happiness in your life. More specifically, S+ comprises the meaning of ▲SAFETY+ (a space that provides solutions to sustain our daily life safely), ▲SOCIETY+ (a communication platform for mutual growth with the local community), and ▲STUDY+ (a research and development space based on education and experience to establish a safety culture).
HYUNDAI WIA has made each zone 'experiential' so that people can enjoy education more through direct experience related to each zone’s topic. Each zone covers ▲work safety ▲construction safety ▲fire safety ▲safety gears ▲health and safety ▲virtual safety experience. There are also separate rooms on the second floor to provide theoretical education related to safety.
The S+ provides a variety of experiential training specialized in 'industrial safety' and the characteristics of the manufacturing industry were taken into account. HYUNDAI WIA prepared separate training programs that consider the trend of utilizing automated lines and robots in manufacturing sites in recent years. Industrial robot safety training in the lab teaches the importance of 'safeguard' actions and entry paths when a robot arm is operating on a conveyor belt. In the automated line safety training, the participants can experience the dangers of entrapment accidents when using machines that use V-belts and rollers.
The company has also prepared safety training for various accidents that may occur at construction sites, including training on the importance of safety harnesses through the 'Safety Harness Fall Simulator' and training on fastening 'Safety hooks' in case of falling over a railing or falling into an opened floor. In addition, the lab provides training to prevent fall accidents from a ladder by allowing people to experience a fall while using a ladder and teach them how to use it correctly.
Trainings with ‘VR Simulator’ is also available. The VR simulator is a device that allows people to experience seven serious accidents that can occur at industrial sites through VR equipment for about 15 minutes. In addition, the VR simulator allows users to experience first aid, fire suppression, and emergency evacuation, which are trainings that are useful in real life.
The S+ is free and accessible to everyone from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Those who wish to attend the training can make a reservation on S+'s website (https://splus.wia.co.kr) up to two weeks prior to the date of use.
"We will do our best to make the Safety Experience Lab S+ a place that provides practical help to many people,” "We ask for your continued interest and encouragement to make HYUNDAI WIA a company that leads the safety culture,” said Jae-wook Jung, the CEO of HYUNDAI WIA.
