Employees of HYUNDAI WIA participated in corporate social responsibility activity near its business site to clean up the local environment.
On November 13th, HYUNDAI WIA announced that the company held a ‘Plogging’ voluntary activity at Wangsong Lake in Uiwang, Gyeonggi-do on the 11th. More than 150 people, including HYUNDAI WIA’s employees and their families, participated in the plogging activity. The word ‘Plogging’ is a combination of the Swedish word Plocka Upp, which means "to pick up," and the English word Jogging. It refers to the activity of picking up trash while walking or running.
Families of HYUNDAI WIA walked around Wangsong Lake in Uiwang-si for two hours to pick up trashes and clean the environment. The collected litter was separated into categories for recycling. In addition, employees and their families together with local communities made more than 2,000 'EM mud balls', which are made of beneficial microorganisms and mud, to throw them into the river to purify the water. The ‘EM mud balls’ gradually dissolve in rivers and streams, purifying water quality and removing odors. The company then planted more than 1,000 'Seed balls' around the lake, which are round balls made of plant seeds and loess.
HYUNDAI WIA plans to expand volunteer activities which employees can participate, to further protect the environment near its business sites. "It was a meaningful time as I could clean up the Wangsong Lake area in Uiwang-si altogether with my colleagues and families", "We will continually strive to coexist with the local community and neighbors by participating in more diverse volunteer programs", said an official from HYUNDAI WIA,
