HYUNDAI WIA and HYUNDAI ELEVATOR jointly develop robot-friendly parking solution

2025-08-29

HYUNDAI WIA has partnered with HYUNDAI ELEVATOR to jointly develop a robot-friendly parking infrastructure solution.

On September 28, HYUNDAI WIA announced the signing of an MOU with HYUNDAI ELEVATOR for a robot-friendly parking infrastructure solution business at HYUNDAI WIA Uiwang R&D Center in Gyeonggi-do. The two companies aim to create a new parking solution by integrating HYUNDAI WIA’s parking robot technology with HYUNDAI ELEVATOR’s HIP (Hyundai Integrated Parking System). The signing ceremony was attended by Ik Jin Baek, Vice President of HYUNDAI WIA’s Mobility Solution Sub-Division and Won Hae Lee, Vice President of HYUNDAI ELEVATOR’s Elevator Business Division.

Under the MOU, the two companies will jointly develop an auto-pilot valet parking infrastructure solution powered by robots. This innovative parking solution combines HYUNDAI WIA’s recently commercialized parking robot with HYUNDAI ELEVATOR’s advanced parking elevator technology. While the parking robot handles horizontal vehicle transfers, the elevator ensures vertical transport, together delivering a highly efficient and bottleneck-free parking experience with minimal human intervention.

HYUNDAI WIA will supply HYUNDAI ELEVATOR with parking robot solutions and the control software showcased previously at HMGMA (Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America) and commercially at Factorial Seongsu. HYUNDAI WIA will be leading infrastructure design to support the installation and operation of parking robots. Both companies will jointly develop the service scenario, UX, and UI  tailored to parking robot services used in parking lots. HYUNDAI WIA will also provide the necessary technical support and training required for seamless operations.

HYUNDAI WIA is prioritizing capability enhancements to expand its parking robot business. HYUNDAI WIA increased the parking robot's maximum vehicle load capacity from 2.2t to 3.4t, accommodating the rapidly growing demand for parking solutions suitable for heavier vehicles such as EVs and SUVs. The dimensions of the parking robot have also been optimized to handle everything from compact to large vehicles. Leveraging the successful commercialization experience at Factorial Seongsu, HMGMA, and HMGICs (Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore), HYUNDAI WIA has secured synchronized control technology that can command more than 50 parking robots.

HYUNDAI ELEVATOR will supply the hardware and software required for the valet parking system. Furthermore, the company will oversee the service design and parking layout planning, aligning parking robots with valet parking operations. HYUNDAI ELEVATOR will also manage the infrastructure planning and installation of parking facilities necessary for robot-based parking services.

The two companies plan to finalize a standardized parking lot design integrated with software by this year and aim to win commercial contracts from 2026. “We are delighted to collaborate with HYUNDAI ELEVATOR to develop a revolutionary parking solution. Moving forward, we will continue to pioneer new markets by continuously driving technological innovation,” said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
