HYUNDAI WIA employees saved 1% of their salaries to donate vehicles to welfare facilities.

On December 24th, HYUNDAI WIA announced the donation of “HYUNDAI WIA Dream Cars” to 10 welfare facilities, including the Jinhae School for Lifelong Education of the Disabled in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. Representatives from welfare facilities in Gyeongsangnam-do, including those from Changwon-si, attended the donation ceremony. On that day, HYUNDAI WIA donated a total of 10 vehicles to welfare facilities. With this latest contribution, HYUNDAI WIA has donated a total of 190 vehicles to welfare facilities nationwide since 2013.

HYUNDAI WIA prepared the donated vehicles using funds from the “1% Miracle” initiative and corporate contributions, totaling approximately 500 million won. The “1% Miracle” is HYUNDAI WIA’s internal social contribution initiative, where employees donate 1% of their salary to help the local community. These funds go toward various initiatives for local communities, including the Dream Car program, to help those in need.

HYUNDAI WIA delivered the vehicles to welfare facilities operating with old or no vehicles. Tongyeong-si Welfare Center, located in Tongyeong-si in Gyengsangnam-do, has provided laundry services to residents in both Yokjido and Hansando Islands. However, the center has struggled to maintain services due to the original laundry vehicle aging causing frequent breakdowns. HYUNDAI WIA provided the facility with MIGHTY, a Hyundai Motor 2.5-ton truck, after remodeling it into a laundry vehicle. This vehicle is equipped with four drum washers, allowing it to handle up to 100kg of laundry at once.

In addition to the laundry vehicle, HYUNDAI WIA delivered a Hyundai Motor STARIA to the Jinhae School for Lifelong Education of the Disabled, an educational welfare center for people with severe disabilities. The facility was previously limited from participating in programs due to a lack of vehicles. The donated vehicle will assist the center to safely conduct field visits and outdoor activities. Furthermore, STARIA Kinder, a dedicated shuttle vehicle, was donated to the Nature Regional Children’s Center for children from families affected by wildfires and heavy rains, ensuring their safe transportation in rural areas.

HYUNDAI WIA plans to continue to expand the Dream Car Program to ensure that everyone in our local communities can travel safely and freely. “It is deeply rewarding to be able to share the Christmas spirit with our neighbors, and HYUNDAI WIA will continue to actively support various social contribution initiatives within the company to fulfill our corporate social responsibility,” said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
