HYUNDAI WIA creates a new garden in the center of Seoul in partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
On the 17th, HYUNDAI WIA announced to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to develop a Corporate Companion Garden for the 2026 Seoul International Garden Show. Through this MOU, HYUNDAI WIA plans to build ‘ Dodam Garden’, a place where citizens can freely relax, within Seoul Forest in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. This marks the first time HYUNDAI WIA has created a green space in Seoul. The ceremony was attended by Maeng Ki Hyun, Head of Business Support Group at HYUNDAI WIA, Kim Young Hwan, Director of Seoul City Garden, Lee Won Tae, Director of Work Together Foundation, and Kim Hyung Soo, CEO of Tree Planet.
‘Dodam Garden’ is a green space themed around ‘Dodam’, HYUNDAI WIA’s character inspired by the endangered yellow-throated marten. HYUNDAI WIA will landscape a 401㎡ area within Seoul Forest, planting species such as Caryopteris Incana, Korean wild flower found in Jirisan Mountain to create a shaded, restful area for visitors. A dedicated ‘Nectar-Plant Zone’ will also be featured by planting nectar-producing trees that attract bees. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the value of biodiversity and importance of nature conservation.
HYUNDAI WIA will also incorporate its social contribution efforts to expand wildlife habitats into Dodam Garden initiatives. A flagship initiative is the ‘Green Forest’ project, carried out with the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government, to restore areas damaged by wildfires in the province. HYUNDAI WIA plans to rehabilitate land impacted by last year’s wildfire, which spread from Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, to Jirisan National Park, and to create an environment in which wildlife such as martens can thrive. More recently, the company announced that it has co-developed a local specialty, Dodam Sand Cookies’, with rural farms in the Gyeongsangnam-do and will donate 100% of the proceeds to the Green Forest initiative.
HYUNDAI WIA will unveil Dodam Garden on May 1, when the 2026 Seoul International Garden Show opens. The show will run from May 1 to October 27 under the theme “Seoul, Green Culture,” across Seoul Forest, the Han River, Seongsu-dong, and Ttukseom Grand Garden. After the exhibition ends, HYUNDAI WIA plans to maintain Dodam Garden as a permanent garden within Seoul Forest, leaving it in place so it can continue to serve as a relaxation space for citizens.
“We plan to create Dodam Garden as a place where citizens can experience nature up close and take a break in the heart of the city. As Dodam Garden carries the message of protecting endangered species and promoting biodiversity, we will continue to build a more sustainable environment”, said an official from HYUNDAI WIA.
